half moon bay

Over the weekend, Dave and I rented a Zipcar and, for the first time as California residents, went to the beach! Sure, we didn't travel very far -- it's only an hour drive from the city to the sleepy beaches of the coastline -- but it was just enough to feel like a mini California vacation.

Ok, we didn't get a convertible and it wasn't exactly warm or sunny (in fact, it was cloudy, windy and freezing cold), but we blasted "The Only Place" by Best Coast in the car and had tons of fun anyway.

Some highlights? Watching the windsurfers repeatedly fall as we enjoyed our picnic of California cheese, strawberries, and of course, pinot noir. Binging on fresh oysters while lounging on the heated porch at Sam's Chowder House. Catching the sunset in Pacifica. And no sunburn! It was a fabulous day.

  3. It looks as though you two had a fantastic time!
The beaches in Cali look so much different than the beaches in Florida. Or maybe I've just always gone to the wrong beaches. ;)

And also, to answer your question on my post:
We are thinking about getting a norfolk or norwich terrier. I still need to do some research as to whether or not they can handle the Florida heat, but fingers crossed. We are wanting a long haired dog that doesn't shed.

    1. Wait, the norwich terrier -- that's the terrier in 'Best in Show,' right? Yes, I'm pretty sure it is. If you haven't seen that movie, you must! Lots of awesome terrier songs :)

  4. What a beautiful place! I'm so excited to be following your adventures in San Fran, my husband comes from the Bay area and we think it would be so fun to go back if we get a job opportunity there!

  6. Such a beautiful post. Sometimes the best little adventures are only a short distance from home!! We're hoping to make it to CA this year ... Also, we love watching windsurfers fall down, too! :)
